Earle Brown Days
Before Earle Brown Days
Prior to Earle Brown Days, Brooklyn Center's civic celebration was called Early Bird Days. It was held the first week in June. It consisted of softball tournaments, a tennis tournament, kids’ fishing contest, and swim meet. Special activities such as the World’s Largest Ice Cream Sundae, Almost Anything Goes Contests, carnival, and the treasure hunt were also part of the festival.

The Change to Earle Brown Days
In 1982 a meeting was called to discuss changing the dates and the name of Brooklyn Center's festival. About 25 people representing community groups and local businesses attended. They decided on the name Earle Brown Days and changed the dates to the fourth weekend in June. The number of festival days were shortened from ten to four days.

Why Earle Brown Days
The festival was named for former Brooklyn Center resident, Earle Brown.

Earle Brown Days - The Early Years
Although many people showed up at the meeting to change the name and dates of Earle Brown Days, not very many showed up later to work on the committee. The first committee consisted of chairman, Jerry Pedlar, a few members of the Lions Club, and representatives from the chamber of commerce, Sun Post,
and the parks and recreation department.

The first festival consisted of a small parade, fireworks, kids' fishing contest,
fun run, and softball tournaments.
There was very little money to work with. There was a small donation from the Lions Club. The Holiday Inn sponsored the fun run, Burger Brothers sponsored the fishing contest, and the parks and recreation department sponsored the softball
tournaments and fireworks.

On June 15, 1985, Earle Brown Days incorporated, and is governed by a
board of directors.

Earle Brown Days Festival Today
The activities today include a craft & business expo; kids’ fishing contest; Family Fun & Games, parade, fireworks, senior golf tournament, band concert, magic show, face painting, and more!
