The Brooklyn Center Fire Department (BCFD) was founded in 1949. The BCFD protects approximately 29,000 people living in an area of nine square miles. We operate out of two stations that protect residential, commercial, and industrial areas.

The BCFD responds to fires, medical emergencies, and chemical spills within the city in a timely and efficient manner to minimize the loss sustained by any citizen or property in the city. It is the goal of the Fire Department to arrive at an emergency scene within six minutes.

The BCFD consists of one full-time fire chief and 40 paid on call firefighters, some of whom also serve as fire inspectors and training officers.

Inspections of commercial, industrial, and rental units are conducted to ensure that they comply with current fire and life safety codes. The fire department also works with schools and industry to teach fire safety awareness to children and adults.

Our mission is to protect the lives and property of the community from emergencies involving fire, medical, hazardous materials, and environmental causes. We accomplish our mission through education, fire prevention, fire suppression, emergency medical services, and other non-emergency activities.
